CLO Metadata Standards

Describes metadata & cataloguing standards for bibliographic records, workflows and more for cataloguing in Page 1+

eBook Overview/Notes

Definition: An eBook is a book publication made available in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both, readable on the flat-panel display of computers or other electronic devices.

Special notes: These rules should be applied to all eBook records, i.e., import profiles for eBook collections, individually purchased/catalogued eBook titles and originally catalogued eBook records.

Example: See eBook Cataloguing Example at bottom of this page.

Use this table to complete the MARC fields in your record.

  • If the MARC Field Code has an asterisk (*) after the number, then it indicates a required standard. If the row appears in italics the field is optional. These fields must be completed for the record to be accepted into the Network Zone, unless the resource does not have that information.
  • All other fields are recommended to be completed.
  • Please follow the Value Instructions column. If no specific instructions are provided, then follow MARC Standards.

Autogenerated by Alma for e-book collection imports

When the vendor’s ebook collection is imported, Alma combines the 001 and 003 to create a vendor specific 035 matchpoint. DO NOT DELETE this match point.
Use a separate 035 for an OCoLC, if needed.

For original cataloguing, 035 is not required because it cannot be generated
